Cory Payne Reading Response, Anderson Ch5 It seems so strange issuing the death penalty to so many people like Anderson describes. It is a very different culture than ours but it seems like they are effectively able to handle problems quickly. Like with the music influencing more crimes; they did not have to go through months of paperwork in order to stop what they believed was the cause. Another part that stood out to me was the fact that they allowed the families of those that were murdered carry out the execution. As an American I would never think of that working and it is very surprising to me that they are able to control such things. One thing that cracked me up though was that when they headed back the driver immediately cranked his music in the pickup.
I am posting my week 10 here because I will be unable to get to a computer tomorrow before class to post it under week 10, I have emailed you about this as well.
On page 177 in ch 11 of Collier, the quote ".. but many post-conflict governments are too weak for this to be wise" doesn't seem to make much sense to me. I know and understand they are talking about donors and what not, but what makes a government too weak to be wise? Wouldn't making wise decisions help the government to become stronger? I understand being too weak to fight or not have money to spend, but not too weak to come up with greater ideas and ways that will strengthen the country. I guess it just doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me.
